The 3rd and the Mortal (alternative spelling The Third and the Mortal) were a Norwegian experimental metal band, founded in the city of Trondheim, Norway, in 1992 by Rune Hoemsnes, Finn Olav Holthe, Geir Nilssen, Trond Engum and singer Kari Rueslåtten. The band started out as a doom metal band mixing distorted guitars and heavy drumming with clean guitars and vocals from Kari Rueslåtten. The band went on to experiment with genres such as progressive rock, jazz, ambient, folk, and electronica.

The 3rd and the Mortal was an experimental band from Trondheim, Norway that was formed in 1992. The band started out as a doom metal band mixing distorted guitars and heavy drumming with clean guitars and female vocals from Kari Rueslåtten. The band then experimented with genres such as ambient, progressive rock, jazz, electronica and trip-hop.

Years active: 1992-? (as The 3rd and the Mortal), ?-2005. Some members of this band were known as Nightfall in 1990 and released a demo under this name. Only the first two recordings, Sorrow and Tears Laid in Earth, are metal. The rest of their releases are more experimental and have little to no metal in them. The last known recording from the band is a track on the tribute compilation to Patrick Fitzgerald called All Sewn Up (2009).

This is their second studio album and their first with Ann-Mari Edvardsen on vocals after Kari left to pursue a solo career. I must say that Experimental, Post Metal is one of my favourite genres.
