The Palace of Versailles" was released on Al Stewart's eight studio album, Time Passages, in September of 1978. It is the follow-up to his 1976 album Year of the Cat. The album, like 1975's Modern Times and 1976's Year of the Cat, was once again produced by Alan Parsons.

Al Stewart's vocal technique can grate on some but I ain't one of them. I love his work, and have done since PP&F when I was introduced to it in '76. Thanks, Pollen, for insisting we play your copy of PP&F on my stereo. This album forms one of the high water marks of Al Stewart's work for me, a "big three" formed of PP&F, MT and YotC. Other albums are good of course, but these three have greatness in them. The recording seems crisp, the mastering not overly hot, though I listen almost exclusively on headphones these days. Whether you're discovering Al Stewart for the first time, or rediscovering him after too many years away, you can't do much better than this album. It isn't as well-known as "Year of the Cat" or "Time Passages," but I think that's to its advantage now, in that it won't seem as timebound by the hit songs we've all heard over & over again.

The album was Al Stewart’s twelfth release. The sophisticated piano intro and boss nova beats sets up a classy listen on one of the strongest Al Stewart songs on the record. Al Stewart’s Lord Grenville, was the opening track on his 1976 album Year Of The Cat. The song opens with Al Stewart’s vocal accompanied by a rhythmic British sea shanty guitar groove that is soon surrounded by Alan Parsons sweeping string section. Al Stewart’s tale of a sixteenth century English Naval commander is a haunting exercise in brilliant songwriting and performance.
Modern Times is Al Stewart's sixth studio album, released in 1975. The album was re-released in 2007 with bonus tracks. The Cord automobile Stewart is sitting in belonged to Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Centered in the cover, holding a mirror reflecting a bright light toward the viewer, as on Stewart's previous album, Past, Present and Future, the U. S. version of the album features the Marvel Comics character Doctor Strange. Erlewine, Stephen Thomas.
Year of the Cat is the seventh studio album by Al Stewart, released in 1976. It was produced and engineered by Alan Parsons. Stewart wrote "Lord Grenville" about the Elizabethan sailor and explorer Sir Richard Grenville (1542–1591).
