Originally conceived as a solo album for Angra vocalist Edu Falaschi, Almah became a full-fledged band with Fragile Equality, the 2008 follow-up to the debut Almah album. This time around, it's just Edu and his band (which includes fellow Angra member Felipe Andreoli) - no guest musicians. With Fragile Equality, Almah sticks pretty close to the sound of the debut. It's a fairly straightforward European-style power metal album with some progressive touches. It's perhaps not as grand or progressive as some Angra works, but most of these songs sound like they'd fit on an Angra album (which isn't a bad thing at all). Obviously there's a lot of melody here, but there's also a real sense of heaviness that you might not find in the average Stratovarius or Edguy release. Heavy is good, especially paired with Falaschi's unique and powerful vocals. It's the kind of power metal you can bang your head to.The caliber of musicianship is really high, especially coming from a largely unknown lineup. The guitar work is impressive, the rhythms are super-tight, and the keyboards are handled very well, adding to the music without becoming obnoxious. And of course Falaschi, who has been struggling live lately, turns in a fantastic performance. "Beyond Tomorrow," "You'll Understand" and the title track all stand out, but there really isn't a weak moment on the album. If you enjoyed the first Almah album, you're going to like Fragile Equality as well. Honestly, it's probably a stronger album overall. It's also going to appeal to fans of Angra (naturally), Shaman, Stratovarius, Kamelot and melodic progressive power metal in general.
