Alpine Static by Kinski, released 12 July 2005 1. Hot Stenographer 2. The Wives of Artie Shaw 3. Hiding Drugs in the Temple (Part 2) 4. The Party Which You Know Will Be Heavy 5. Passed Out On Your Lawn 6. All Your Kids Have Turned to Static 7. The Snowy Parts of Scandinavia 8. Edge Set 9. Waka Nusa Combining avant-garde experimentalism picked up from their interest in composers like Terry Riley and Steve Reich with a fondness for ‘70s Krautrock pioneers like Ash Ra Tempel, and the gut-level thrust, heft and swing of Black Sabbath, the Groundhogs and ’60s/’70s Mexican psych band Los Dug Dug’s, Kinski. Recorded in January of 2005, Alpine Static is an immediate, visceral record.

Alpine Static ‎(CD, Album, Promo). There is nothing overproduced or pretentious about this album. The tracks, sonically, are not less than a landing 747 flying 150 feet directly over your head.

Another reference point to the sound on this album would be SONIC YOUTH. I am a big fan of their earlier record "Airs Above Your Station" which featured a lot of spacey, psychedelic music with outbursts of guitars and heaviness. This release is almost the opposite and because of that it fails to impress me at all.

Proven: 1999's Space Launch for Frenchie, the 2003 LP Airs Above Your Station, and Alpine Static in 2005. The rhythms are more deliberate in parts of Static - occasionally there's a whiff of stoner rock, or maybe Burning Brides without vocals - but the consistent pace of "Hot Stenographer" and "Hiding Drugs in the Temple, Pt. 2" suits the Seattle quartet as well as their documented spaced-out side. In fact, "Hiding Drugs" effectively does both

There's plenty of experimentation, sudden shifts, et. but on the whole, the album is greener and more fun than their previous efforts. Their sense of humor definitely shines through on tracks like Hot Stenographer and The Snowy Parts. Initially, the repetition and sudden blasts of noise are really annoying until (after a few listens) you realize how necessary they are to the integrity of the album
