The Beatles' roadmap. The opening show, at Shea Stadium in the New York borough of Queens, on 15 August was record-breaking and one of the most famous concert events of its era. It set records for attendance and revenue generation. Promoter Sid Bernstein said, "Over 55,000 people saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium. It remained the highest concert attendance in the United States until 1973, when Led Zeppelin played to an audience of 56,000 in Tampa, Florida.

The album incorporates jazz, R&B, and soul music influences in its mainly rock sound, while its songs feature erotic narratives and lyrics that brazenly celebrate sexuality. Music journalist David Stubbs writes that the album's subject matter "reconciles lust for women with respect for women", eschewing the "ironic self-loathing" of Gentlemen (1993) and the "down in the. dumps" lyrics of Black Love (1996)  . 14 (11): 140. Retrieved August 6, 2012. Hughes, Kim (November 5, 1998).
