The French Quarter (French: Quartier français; Spanish: Barrio Francés), also known as the Vieux Carré ("Old Square") or Vieux Carré Historic District, is the oldest section of the City of New Orleans. Founded in 1718 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, New Orleans developed around the Vieux Carré, the city's central square. Today, the district is commonly known as the French Quarter, or simply "the Quarter," a reflection of the diminished French influence after the Louisiana Purchase.
The French Quarter is fine, day and night. Up near Rampart it can get a little sketchy, but I've never had any problems there. New Orleans is an awesome place, don't let any misguided preconceived fears stop you from enjoying yourself. And like Deny said, ignore the gutter punks. They're harmless, but they're not worth the bother. Report inappropriate content. The thief simply got through the window. I myself spent a week there with a friend without incident and had a great time. By the way, we're not even drinkers, but we perfectly enjoyed the French Quarter sights and music; a lovely day at the Zoo; Bayou, Plantation, Garden District and Ghost tours, etc. There's alot to see and do. Just be street-smart, but do by all means enjoy one of America's great cities.
Good Restaurants in the French Quarter. We're visiting New Orleans in November for a girls weekend. We are staying on Bourbon Street and since I'm planning this bash I'm interested i. hat is open?
Shopping in the French Quarter runs a long gamut of opportunities: from high end chain retail in at The Shops at Canal Place to magical spell components at a voodoo-for-tourists shop located down a small back alleyway. You’ll find just about every version of retail therapy in the Quarter, but the options are fairly tremendous, and it helps to be able to narrow the clutter of choices down. Fifi Mahony’s (934 Royal Street) You’re in New Orleans. Santa’s Quarters (1025 Dectatur Street) We’re not trying to sound like Grinches here, but it’s a little baffling how Santa’s Quarters stays in business for 11 months out of the year. Because when you come in here, it is all Christmas, all the time.
French pronunciation can be hard for non-native speakers, as this video proves. But don't worry! We've got plenty of pronunciation tips to make it easier.
