Yawning Man. The Birth of Sol: The Demo Tapes.

The Birth of Sol is different than Yawning Man’s other releases, most noticeably because Mario is on vocals on many songs. The songs are also usually shorter with more variety than its successors. In this collection we find songs such as ‘Saco’ and ‘Sour Glaze’, which reminds me more of the Lalli brothers’ Fatso Jetson than any other. Similar songs like ‘Sinkhole’ give away more of a heavy psychedelic vibe which is worth a listen. These are not the songs the band is known by today however. Many of the songs are punk inspired by Black Flag and similar bands

Recorded in 1986, these demo tapes were originally circulated amongst close friends of Yawning Man members. Other Versions (3 of 3) View All. Cat.

Yawning Man is an American experimental rock band from La Quinta, California, United States. The band originally formed in 1986, although they released no studio recordings until 2005. They have been noted to be one of the first influential bands in the desert rock scene. Yawning Man was formed in 1986, founded by members Gary Arce, Alfredo Hernández, Mario Lalli, and Larry Lalli. At this time, the band started to play marathon jams from the garage to the desert.

About the Vinyl version: I am sad to write - because I really like Yawning Man and Fatso Jetson - but I am disappointed with this record. O.K. ...it is about to issue "demo tapes" but I was expecting some work to improve the sound quality from the version digitally accessible. Also annoying that the noise of a CD Skip is also on the record by accident. (It seems the old tape was copied to CD and from CD to vinyl with minimal care.) However the songs are great(!) ...just the poor sound quality ruin the joy.

I returned it just in time... thanks bro! Will wait until it has a proper release (no wonder Yawning Man never publicized this edition on their social media...)

Damn. I just ordered it and I just heard the skips on "Saucey and Saggy" at the Juno Records previews. Wish I had read your review before. Lousy job by Cobraside... :(
