Mass In F Minor ‎(LP, Album, Mono). The notorious axelrod arrangement that put the prunes outta commission due to a live performance that they were unable to play the music that axe had to bring in studio musicians to play because it was more than the prunes could handle, lol RIP AXE. MASS IN F MINOR combined classical music, Gregorian vocals sung in Latin, and psychedelia, resulting in a fascinating amalgam that makes for enthralling listening. Unfortunately, the members of The Electric Prunes weren’t able to master Axelrod’s compositions as quickly as the established timetable required, which resulted in the band getting assistance from a Canadian group called The Collectors. They later evolved into the band Chilliwack. You may know the album’s opening track, Kyrie Eleison, from its appearance in Easy Rider, but unless you’re a diehard Electric Prunes fan, you may well be unfamiliar with the album in its entirety. Although MASS IN F MINOR did succeed in besting the commercial success of its predecessor by climbing to on the Billboard 200, it scored no hits on the Hot 100, and before the year was over, The Electric Prunes had disbanded.

For fans of the Electric Prunes, the 1968 Reprise album Mass in F Minor is a disaster, but for aficionados of failed and bizarre concept records of the late '60s, it's definitely worth investigating. The eight tracks on this religious-based rock opera (with lyrics sung in Latin!) were written, arranged, and conducted by classical composer David Axelrod and spurred on by then-Prunes manager Lenny Poncher and record producer Dave Hassinger. Unfortunately, the Prunes were not prepared to tackle Axelrod's complex and involved arrangements without a major struggle. The results were completely unlike the group's previous two releases, with the majority of the tracks being performed by ad hoc Prunes.

Loved Mass in F Minor from the moment I heard it when it first came out. Very hard to find decent religious music and I was happy with this album. I hoped it would start a trend but "Christian Rock" really went south. This is an interesting album, primarily because most of it is performed by The Collectors, who were a much better band than the Electric Prunes. Published on November 30, 2014.

All first Three albums from Electric Prunes are great. This is the best one. Also check out the David Axelrod LP's 'Songs of Innocence' and 'Songs of Experience'. He wrote Mass in F Minor and Release of an Oath. I think for me it is impossible to name one album the greatest I've ever heard, because I enjoy so much different Music. I am sure, however, it stays firmly in top Three.
