Sleepy People began in Wakefield, Yorkshire circa 1989, when various students on Wakefield College's Popular and Commercial Music met and befriended each other. These included songwriter and former coal miner Paul Hope, mature student Andrew "Tiny" Wood, teenaged classical cellist and bass guitarist Richard Green, drummer Andy Peace and singing flute player Rachel Theresa Hope (Paul's wife). Several songs from this period were recorded for a live-in-the-studio mini-album called Paint a Ceiling On the Sky, which was released on cassette. Meanwhile, down in London, the former Sleepy People members in Pop-A-Cat-A-Petal were beginning to gain attention of their own.

Two Sleepy People" is a song written on September 10, 1938 by Hoagy Carmichael with lyrics by Frank Loesser. The song "Thanks for the Memory", written for the February 1938 film The Big Broadcast of 1938 by Leo Robin and Ralph Rainger and performed by Bob Hope and Shirley Ross had proved very popular. Carmichael and Loesser were asked to write a new song for a follow-up film titled Thanks for the Memory. They came up with "Two Sleepy People" which was again sung by Hope and Ross.

Album Hoagy Carmichael 1927-1939. Two Sleepy People Lyrics. Here we are, out of cigarettes Holding hands and yawning, look how late it gets Two sleepy people, by dawn's early light And too much in love to say good night. Here we are in the cozy chair Pickin' on a wishbone from the Frigidaire Two sleepy people with nothing to say And too much in love to break away. Well, here we are, just about the same Foggy little fella, drowsy little dame Two sleepy people, by dawn's early light And too much in love to say good night. Here we are, don't we look a mess Lipstick on your collar, Wrinkles in my dress Two sleepy people, who know very well They're too much in love to break the spell. Here we are, crazy in head Gee you're eyes are gorgeous, even when they're red Two sleepy people, by dawn's early light And too much in love to say good night. Do you remember when we went dancing at the Palomar?

Paint your own starry night on the ceiling. Basic Blue Sky. An ordinary blue sky with puffy white clouds is so simple to paint, even a child could do it - if it wasn't on the ceiling. Not all fascinating sky-scapes are true blue. The Gullah people, who settled the islands and coastal areas along the Carolinas, Georgia and northern Florida, believed that spirits, or haints, could not cross water. They painted the ceilings over the thresholds to their homes pale blue - a lovely sky-shade that symbolized water and a powerful haint barrier to them.
