Album: Modern Life is Rubbish (1993). This was only added to the album after David Balfe of Blur's record company complained that the album wasn't commercial enough, and he wanted them to record some hit singles. Damon Albarn wrote this at his parents' house in Colchester on Christmas Eve 1992. In 1992 Blur did a series of concerts in the US which wasn't well received by both the band and the audience. Grunge was at it's peak at that time and they couldn't do anything with it. As a result they started to develop a very British-Centric style.

Working out an obvious Kinks fetish and getting away with it, the band spiked the crisp arrangement and ruminations on "20th century boys" with a slightly queasy string arrangement and odd backing vocals and made a dramatic little pop winner with the results. As for the 12" B-sides, "Into Another" was another tribute to a past, very English influence, namely Wire, with the combination of heavy echo and reverb on the bass and drums during the verses and Albarn's distanced singing contrasting just enough with the slightly more sing-along chorus.

Holding on for tomorrow. She's a twentieth century girl, with her hands on the wheel Trying not to make him sick again Seeing what she can borrow London's so nice back in your seamless rhymes, but we're lost on the Westway. So we hold each other tightly and hold on for tomorrow Trying not to be sick again and holding on for tomorrow She's a twentieth centruy girl, hanging on for dear life So we hold each other tightly and hold on for tomorrow.

The first single released from Blur's sophomore album, "Modern Life Is Rubbish". The song was only written at the insistence of Food Records boss Dave Balfe, who didn't believe that the album as originally intended by the group had hit singles on it. At his behest, Damon wrote "For Tomorrow" over the Christmas holidays in 1992 and the group excitedly reconvened in early 1993 to record it at Maison Rouge with producer Stephen Street. 録曲.
