The Astrud Gilberto Album is the debut studio album by Astrud Gilberto. It was released via Verve Records in 1965. It peaked at number 41 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Astrud Gilberto Album 1965. Astrud Gilberto & George Michael 1996. Astrud Gilberto: Verve Ultimate Cool. Samba E Bossa Nova (Remastered). The album became the best-selling jazz album up to that point, and made Gilberto a star across America. Her first actual solo album, The Astrud Gilberto Album, was released in May 1965. Though it barely missed the Top 40, the LP's blend of Brazilian classics and ballad standards proving quite infectious with easy listening audiences.
Along with Verve's equally fine Silver Collection of Gilberto's prime sides, this 16-track set includes cuts from most of the singer's different projects. From her classic Getz date ("The Girl From Ipanema") to her solo sessions with both Gil Evans ("Berimbau") and Ron Carter and Toots Thielemans ("Beach Samba"), the music is always top-notch.
