That same year the band recorded a session on John Peel's BBC Radio 1 programme and David 'Kid' Jensen's BBC radio 1 show. The band toured extensively and scored an indie hit with their 1984 single "Talk About The Past" which featured Vini Reilly of Durutti Column on piano. In autumn 2009, The Wake (McInulty and Allen) came together once again to record a new album, "A Light Far Out", the recording of which took time to complete. On 12 December 2009 the group performed live with other Factory labelmates such as Section 25 and A Certain Ratio, at the Plan K venue in Brussels.

The Wake, who recorded for Factory and Sarah, mixed nervously funky post-punk with bedroom synth-pop. After repressing two singles for Record Store Day, Captured Tracks has reissued the Glasgow band's 1985 sophomore LP along with non-album tracks from the era. Some bands have to wait years or even decades to be fully appreciated. The Wake were built that way from the start. The Glasgow band can claim the unique distinction of recording for two of the preeminent British indie labels of the late 20th century, Factory and Sarah. Fittingly, their best music mixes nervously funky post-punk with wispy bedroom synth-pop.
