About Daily Operation. Gang Starr’s third album once again combined Guru’s monotone vocals over jazzy boom bap beats courtesy of DJ Premier. This album marked the debuts of Gang Starr Foundation members Jeru The Damaja and Lil Dap from the Group Home on the multi-instrumental track I’m the Man. This was also the first Gang Starr album engineered by Eddie Sancho, who Premier worked with on a number of productions in the following years. The album was supported by the singles Ex Girl To Next Girl and Take It Personal, which peaked at on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart.
Daily Operation is the third studio album by American hip hop duo Gang Starr, released on May 5, 1992 by Chrysalis Records. Despite the album originally only being rewarded . mics in The Source, it was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Hip Hop Albums in 1998. Daily Operation (Intro)" – 0:27. The Place Where We Dwell" – 2:27. Flip the Script" – 4:02. Ex Girl to Next Girl" – 4:40. Soliloquy of Chaos" – 3:13. I'm the Man" (featuring Lil Dap & Jeru the Damaja) – 4:05. '92 Interlude" – 0:28.
From beginning to end, Gang Starr's third full-length album cuts with the force and precision of a machete and serves as an ode to and representation of New York and hip-hop underground culture. The genius of Daily Operation is that Guru's microphone skills are perfectly married to the best batch of tracks Premier had ever come up with. Premier's production has an unparalleled edge here.
Daily Operation is Gang Starr’s third album, and in many ways, predicts the direction of then-forthcoming hip hop classics like Illmatic, Ready to Die and Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). In fact, Daily Operation is directly responsible for two of those, without question. Illmatic and Ready to Die bear the unmistakable mark of DJ Premier, who played a role in the production of both albums. But unlike those and other 1994 gems, Daily Operation didn’t quite manage the same commercial appeal. Together, the duo of Guru and Premier simply does not cater to the mainstream of any generation.
Full Clip: A Decade of Gang Starr is a compilation album, featuring 35 songs released by Hip hop duo Gang Starr between 1989 and 1999, plus a brief 'intro' track. It was released by Virgin Records.
