With a derivative Keys artwork and a purplish slipcase to cover it, the album is very similar to its older brothern in its blueprint, with one Live disc and a full second disc of recently-recorded tracks. The live disc brings the rest of that reunion concert, and like its predecessor, while it's nice to have, it doesn't bring much to the fan, if he owns Yessongs or Yesshows (despite their respective flaws).

The majority of the Yes album covers were created by the great artist Roger Dean. These are some of the best covers that were the creations of Mr. Dean with the exceptions of Big Generator, and Going for the One. If you were a rock fan growing up in the nineteen sixties or seventies, odds are you spent many hours staring at the cover art of the Yes albums. It was a very common experience to sit in your bedroom with the black lights on listening to the music of Yes while staring at images that transcended space and time knowing no boundaries but the ones of the individual imagination . Tales From Yesterday – 1995. Something’s Coming: The BBC Recordings 1969-1970 – 1997. Keys To Ascension Volumes 1 And 2 – 1998. Yes, Friends And Relatives – 1998. Astral Traveller – 1999.
Keys to Ascension duology feel that much more meaningful in context. Instead of trying to reinvent themselves into another AOR-induced oblivion, Yes appear to have a moment of lucidity after Open Your Eyes wherein they seem to understand the shape of their career the way their listeners do. Virtually everyone can agree Yes released their best material in the classic lineups of the ’70s, and that’s exactly what the band try to reconstruct here.
