The Purba brothers formed Rhythm Kings in Medan, North Sumatra, in 1967, at a time when performing rock music in provincial towns was a novelty.
Shortly thereafter, the group relocated to Jakarta, where it cut its first rock album, Maafkanlah Beta, in 1970 for the Indra label.

The Kings of Rhythm are an American rhythm and blues and soul group formed in the late 1940s in Clarksdale, Mississippi and led by Ike Turner through to his death in 2007. Turner would retain the name of the band throughout his career, although the group has undergone considerable line-up changes over time. The group was an offshoot of a large big band ensemble called "The Tophatters". By the late 1940s Turner had renamed this group the "Kings of Rhythm" 1950s: St. Louis.
Rhythm King Records Ltd was an independent record label founded in the mid-1980s by Martin Heath, Adele Nozedar, DJ Jay Strongman and James Horrocks. It was based in Chiswick, London. Starting out as an offshoot of Daniel Miller's critically acclaimed Mute Records Rhythm King's initial focus was dance music - specifically house music, acid house, acid jazz, sampling culture and hip hop/rap.

The Rhythm Kings are a 60s/70s Soul, Motown, R&B, Blues, Rock, & Reggae style Long Island, NY based band that was established in 1993. I, Philip Gardner, guitar and one of the original founding members & Chris Hadjopoulos, d vocals are the rhythm section. Hadj & I were also former members of another popular Long Island band, The Hackensack Men & the Trenton Horns. The newest member of the Rhythm Kings is Don "the bandit" Bansen: guitar/vocals . All of the songs were written by our good friend and former Rhythm King's guitarist, Chris Moore. The originals start with Blindsided and end with Medicine Man. The Rhythm Kings produced one cd, Medicine Man, 1999. The band went under a different name for the original project.
