Love this Francis the Talking Mule DVD Collection. We have Chill Wills as Francis the talking mule. who tries to keep his bewildered soldier friend, Peter Stirling played by Donald O'Connor from getting into any trouble. Francis the Talking Mule was a mule character who became a celebrity during the 1950s as the star of seven popular nal film comedies. The character originated in the 1946 novel Francis by former . Army Captain David Stern III (1909–2003), son of newspaper publisher J. David Stern. After another studio turned down the property, Universal bought the rights for a film series, with Stern adapting his own script for the first entry, simply titled Francis.

Chill Wills was a multi-talented character actor born in 1902 in Seagoville, Texas (USA). In addition to many movie and TV roles, he was probably best known as the voice of "Francis the Talking Mule" in a series of six movies in 1950-1955 inclusive, staring Donald O' Connor (another multi-talented . dividual, best know for his dancing). Wills also appeared as a charater in one of the movies. He died in 1978 of cancer. Rumor has it that there is an Australian actor that used the same name.
