Stephen Fry - The Hippopotamus download album

The Hippopotamus (1994) is a comic novel by Stephen Fry. Written in part as an epistolary novel, it is largely narrated by the main character Edward "Ted" Wallace. Wallace is an alcoholic washed-up poet and theatre critic who, having been fired from his newspaper job, accepts a lucrative commission from his terminally ill goddaughter to investigate rumours of miracle healings at Swafford Hall, country mansion of Wallace's old friend Lord Logan.

The Hippopotamus (2004). About book: In this novel, as in everything else he touches, Stephen Fry alternately entertains, amuses, provokes and alarms, and I found the novel to be part silly, part thought-provoking, part brilliant. We follow Ted Wallace, a 60-something has-been journalist-cum-poet, who is outwardly and verbally a cynical misogynist

Tm so glad to have caught yo. 210. The Hippopotamus. Have a coffee/ I said, a little frigidly. I find it difficult to treat a girl who has recently called me a wart-hog with any real warmth of manner, however much I may want to jam my cock up her funnel.

John Jencks’ adaptation of the Stephen Fry novel is all Allam, all the time: when not grousing in voiceover, he can be witnessed sniping, letching and harrumphing in person as Ted Wallace, a blocked poet-turned-soused critic drawn into an altogether wonky country house mystery. It’s a slight limitation that neither Wallace nor the audience really knows what he’s investigating – we’re mostly watching Allam scowling at the eccentrics passing through his eyeline – but it’s still a pleasure, and often a joy, to watch the star measuring out and savouring Fry’s rich wordplay like fingers of scotch.

Stephen Fry has wickedly rewritten the country house detective mystery. But realistically, it could have been set any time in the past century. Stephen Fry is one of the most brilliant individuals of the current time. To find that he excels in literature as well should be no surprise.

The Hippopotamus - is a novel by Stephen Fry, first published in 1994. The Best of Play School - is a 1993 album by Play School. It collects songs from Hey Diddle Diddle, Hickory Dickory, Humpty Dumpty and Wiggerly Woo.
