Songs start at NIS . 0. After forging the templates of black metal and Viking metal in the ’80s and early ’90s, this Swedish institution went on to deliver grit-caked, one-man-band, thrash-metal brutality on 2001’s Destroyer of Worlds. Quorthon opens with Viking-esque acoustic guitar on Lake of Fire, then sings his voice raw on the title track over battering-ram drums and a chorus of devil moans. Kill Kill Kill features supercharged riffs caked in motorcycle exhaust, while White Bones traverses shiny guitar harmonics and face-mauling distortion. Destroyer of Worlds Bathory.
Produced by Quorthon & Börje Forsberg. Album Destroyer of Worlds. Destroyer of Worlds Lyrics. A flash like the birth of a sun A pillar of virgin fire Now glowing a ruby cloud The finger of death reaching higher. Radiant dust a chimney rise Desert floor dissolved wide ablaze Golden plum against the midnight sky Burning eyes in death clouds ashgrey face. Written by vocalist Quorthon, Destroyer of Worlds is the album title track and talks about the atomic bomb and its destructive effects. Destroyer of Worlds" Track Info. Record Label Black Mark Production. Release Date October 9, 2001.
Destroyer of Worlds is sort of odd as far as Bathory albums go. It doesn't really have any sort of theme, and mixes seemingly unrelated tracks that sort of combine the different themes of past Bathory albums. Alas, a neophyte to black metal could be excused for thinking "Destroyer of Worlds" was a compilation album. Granted, Bathory is at their most powerful when some sort of theme ties together an album. For example, Hammerheart is often regarded as their magnum opus, and for good reason (although Nordland came close, in my opinion). and "Bathory", the Odinist "Twilight of the Gods", the descent into musical Valhalla with "Blood Fire Death", "Destroyer of Worlds" is definitely the black sheep of the family.
After these Bathory returned to the Viking metal style with ’Blood on Ice’ and the first two parts of the ‘Nordland’ four-album set (the third and final parts were never finished as the band leader Quorthon died before he finished them. There was also another often much ignored Bathory album released before the ‘Nordland’ albums that mixes both the Viking and thrash styles, ‘Destroyer of Worlds’. Hidden between the worst albums and the better later Viking metal albums, it is easy to see how ‘Destroyer of Worlds’ has become so ignored.

Destroyer of Worlds is the tenth studio album by Swedish extreme metal band Bathory. It was released on 9 October 2001, through Black Mark Production. The album's title is taken from a famous quote by J. Robert Oppenheimer about the atomic bomb: "I am become death, destroyer of worlds", which was itself quoted from verse 32 of chapter 11 in the Bhagavad Gita, spoken by Vishnu.
