The Osborne Brothers, Sonny Osborne (b. October 29, 1937) and Bobby Osborne (b. December 7, 1931), were an influential and popular bluegrass act during the 1960s and 1970s Osborne Brothers. Their song "Ruby Are You Mad" came in 1956 after signing with MGM Records (1956) and began a string of hits through 1986. Among them were "Once More" (1958), "Up This Hill & Down" (1965), "Making Plans" (1965), "Rocky Top" (1967), "Tennessee Hound Dog" (1969), and "Midnight Flyer" (1972). The Osborne Brothers' final chart appearance came in late 1986 with a new version of "Rocky Top".
Sonny Osborne had retired fron the stage, and Ralph Stanley had quit playing the banjo. Thank God for "High Lonesome", which immortalizes selected performances of these bluegrass titans on film, while providing heartfelt personal reflections, unflinching historical context and exceptionally apt musical examples. The historical sweep is epic, the music prodigious (There must be between 50 and 75 songs, divided between live performances and background music, here). There are dozens of little moments that will break your heart - Jimmy Martin's consummate showmanship, even playing.
OSBORNE BROTHERS: A Bluegrass Jamboree. 2014/Jasmine) 26 tracks. Article properties: OSBORNE BROTHERS: A Bluegrass Jamboree. Interpret: OSBORNE BROTHERS. Bobby and Sonny Osborne were from Hyden, a small coal town in Kentucky. Bobby was born on December 7, 1931 and Sonny on October 29, 1937. Together and separately, they were on small radio stations and tiny labels from the late 1940s onward. Together, the Osbornes and Red Allen scraped together fifty dollars to send Sutton to Nashville with the tape, and Sutton went to see Wesley Rose at Acuff-Rose. Although Rose owned Hickory Records, he still did country A&R for MGM Records, just as his father, Fred, had done. By 1956, though, MGM president Frank Walker had instructed one of his relatives, Jim Vienneau, to go to Nashville to work with Rose, probably as a prelude to easing Rose out of the picture.
