He recorded blues for the Victor, Brunswick and Vocalion labels 1928-1935, but in the late 1930s joined the Church of God in Christ, where he became an ordained minister in 1950, and only played gospel music. Wilkins performed in Memphis in the 1920s and 30s with such luminaries as Furry Lewis, Memphis Minnie, Son House and others. He recorded for the Victor, Brunswick and Vocalion labels.
