Cryin' Heart Blues is a seventeen-track 2005 compilation of studio sessions and live recordings by Rick Danko, the late bassist of The Band. The album was taken from a wide variety of sources, dating from the sessions for Danko's eponymous first album through to other studio sessions recorded between about 1978 to 1988 and live recordings from 1979 and 1990.

Danko formed the Rick Danko Band at the age of 12 or 13. By age 14, Danko had left the Simcoe Composite School and started playing local dance halls with his band the Starlights. By 1965, with two singles under their belt, recorded as the Canadian Squires, they met the legendary blues harmonicist and vocalist Sonny Boy Williamson and planned a collaboration with him as soon as he returned to Chicago. The group went on to play a four-month stand of gigs in New Jersey immediately afterward, but Williamson died two months after their. Cryin' Heart Blues (2005). At Dylan's Cafe (2007; a live solo concert recorded in Washington, DC on December 8, 1987). Live at the Tin Angel, 1999 (2011).

Compilation album by Rick Danko. Rick Danko chronology. Times Like These (2000). At Dylan's Cafe (2009). The album taken from a wide variety of sources, dating from the sessions for Danko's eponymous first album through to other studio sessions recorded between about 1978 to 1988 and live recordings from 1979 and 1990, the result a mixed bag of brilliance of an under-recorded artist. An alternate cut of "New Mexicoe", featuring three guitar heavyweights (Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend and Ronnie Wood) dates from the sessions for Danko's eponymous debut. Lacking the subdued nature of the album version, it nonetheless is a fascinating portrait of a work-in-progress.
