archiv für ton und nichtton (usually known as Raster-Noton) is an electronic music label based in Germany. It resulted from the fusion of two previous labels (Rastermusic and noton. archiv für ton und nichtton) in the last months of 1999. Raster-Noton has a sublabel named Kangaroo, which is reserved for releases by Ilpo Väisänen (of Pan Sonic fame). Raster-Noton also is the exclusive distributor of Ivan Pavlov's label Wavetrap. The boxes were made by hand, by German bookbinder Cornelia Ahnert.

Raster-Noton was a German electronic music record label established in 1999. Based in Chemnitz, Germany, it emerged from the fusion of Rastermusik, founded by Olaf Bender and Frank Bretschneider in 1996, and Noton (Archiv für Ton und Nichtton), a sublabel which was run by Carsten Nicolai. In 2017, the label has split up back into two distinct entities: Raster, which would continue to be run by Bender and Noton, focusing on Nicolai's output.

Raster-Noton has been at the bleeding edge of electronic music and sound art for two decades. The German imprint remains one of Europe’s most revered and reliable hubs for experimental electronic music, IDM and audio-visual art, a stringently programmed platform for overlapping sonic, artistic and scientific exploration and collaboration. Produkt is an early project from Raster-Noton founders Frank Bretschneider and Olaf Bender (along with Tilo Seidel), and while their first album, Float, isn’t quite as good as their second, Stretch (which is really good), it’s worth the entry price alone for opener ‘Interflug’. A militantly hypnotic, 18-minute acid motorik workout, it laid the foundation for much of the processed funk and rhythmic asceticism to follow (particularly from colleague-to-be Carsten Nicolai, aka Alva Noto, then the chief of noton.

the pieces of music contributed to the release supposedly reflect upon the label`s reference points as well as can be seen as the artists` vision of raster-noton. modul 4 epcd of carsten nicolai aka noto opens up a soundspace of deep, overlayed bass frequencies combined to a smooth piece of music. perfectly arranged wavefiles that seem to be most achievable unison of structure and sound. byetone and komet provide more rhythm-driven tracks. while byetones remixes seem oriented towards cinema dramaturgy, komets work is more interconnected structurally within a continuous flux. the COH ep appears to be a sonic interpretation of a drawing by D42 who also contributed with graphic/visual work into the event at taktlos 2000. the drawing is the actual title of the ep.
