Brian Wilson and Mike Love have both announced they’re doing holiday concerts, yet another strange chapter in rock’s longest-running dysfunctional family saga. Back in April, Wilson announced a month-long Yuletide tour, where he’s doing the Beach Boys’ 1964 Christmas Album in full, from Blue Christmas to Frosty the Snowman. But speaking of frosty, Mike Love is getting into the act with his competing tour, which he announced in September-a move that might not be all that surprising to longtime fans, who’ve seen sleighloads of Wilson/Love drama over the years.
Celebration is the self-titled second album release by the Mike Love fronted band Celebration. The album was released in February 1979 and mainly features song writing from Mike Love and Ron Altbach. The album also contains a Brian Wilson co-write called "How’s About A Little Bit". Starbaby" and "Gettin' Hungry" were released as the lead singles for album. The album was only released on LP and is currently out of print.
Gettin' Hungry" is a song written and performed by Brian Wilson and Mike Love, released as a single in August 1967, the second and last released on the original Brother Records label. It was later placed on the Beach Boys' album Smiley Smile one month later. It is one of the few songs on Smiley Smile not explicitly taken from the aborted Smile project, along with "Little Pad".
Brian and I connect on a pretty primordial level, Mike Love, sporting white handlebar mustache, told Rolling Stone afterwards. He’s got his own band. The hour-long interview will air August 10 on the satellite network’s Beach Boys channel, and promotes a new album, The Beach Boys With the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which combines new orchestral arrangements around the original vocal tracks of Beach Boys hits. It was the group’s first public appearance since the Beach Boys’ acclaimed 50th anniversary tour, which came to a sour end after a final London date when Love left to lead his latter-day configuration of the band without Wilson, Marks and Jardine.

Written by Brian, with Mike Love and friend Joe Knott. Brian Wilson himself attributes the staying power of Sunflower and Surf’s Up to the spiritual love of the music on both releases, an outlook complemented by the Brother Records logo – a Lakota chief on horseback with outstretched arms – that’s based on a 1909 bronze statue (at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts) by sculptor Cyrus Edward Dallin titled The Appeal To.
Mike Love has kept the Beach Boys, a vital American institution, alive and working in the face of great odds and even greater derision. These are heretical propositions.
