Marshall Brickman (born August 25, 1939) is an American screenwriter and director, best known for his collaborations with Woody Allen. He is the co-recipient of the 1977 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Annie Hall. He is also known for playing the banjo with Eric Weissberg in the 1960s, and for a series of comical parodies published in The New Yorker. Brickman was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to American parents Pauline (née Wolin) and Abram Brickman.

Would HIGHLY recommend this album for any Bluegrass/Five String fan/enthusiast. 3 people found this helpful. Many a neophyte banjo player in the 1960's wore out their original Elektra produced LP of "New Dimensions in Banjo and Bluegrass" by Eric Weisberg and Marshall Brickman. The first widely disseminated demonstrations of "melodic style" banjo as differentiated from the traditional three finger "Scruggs Style" banjo were found on those wonderful vinyl tracks.

Weissberg and Mandell were folk musicians from New York City, but their musical inspiration was the Bluegrass sound of Appalachia. Weissberg had been playing in folk bands since the '50s, and was a popular studio musician who played on Judy Collins' albums. The rest of the soundtrack was made up of songs recorded in 1963 by Eric Weissberg and Marshall Brickman and released on an album called New Dimensions in Bluegrass. Largely as a result of its use in the movie, this in often associated with country bumpkins. The first few notes are often used in movies and TV shows to imply a hillbilly mentality.

Back in 1963, Weissberg had recorded an album named New Dimensions in Banjo and Bluegrass with Marshall Brickman. The 1963 album was hauled out of the archives, and two tracks were removed. They where replaced with the hit single, and thus a new album was born. 1973; reissue of New Dimensions) Banjo Jamboree: Traditional Series (1996).
