Tin Machine were a British-American hard rock group formed in 1988, notable for being fronted by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. The band consisted of Bowie on lead vocals, sax, and guitar; Reeves Gabrels on guitar; Tony Fox Sales on bass; and Hunt Sales on drums. Tony and Hunt are the sons of American comedian Soupy Sales. The band recorded two studio albums and one live album before dissolving in 1992, when Bowie returned to his solo career. By the end of 2012, they had sold two million albums. Tin Machine is the debut album by Anglo-American hard rock band Tin Machine. It was originally released in May 1989, on the label EMI. The band was the latest venture of David Bowie, inspired by sessions with guitarist Reeves Gabrels. Drummer Hunt Sales and bassist Tony Fox Sales formed the rest of the band, with "fifth member" Kevin Armstrong providing rhythm guitar and Hammond organ.

Tin Machine is the debut album of Tin Machine originally released by EMI in 1989. The group was the latest venture of David Bowie, inspired by sessions with guitarist Reeves Gabrels. Drummer Hunt Sales and bassist Tony Sales formed the rest of the band, with fifth member Kevin Armstrong providing rhythm guitar. The project was intended as a back-to-basics album by Bowie, with a hard rock sound and simple production, as opposed to his past two solo albums. Unlike previous Bowie bands (such as Spiders from Mars), Tin Machine acted as a democratic unit. A remarkable recording for many reasons,.

Many songs - notably "Amlapura" or "Goodbye Mr. Ed" - come as less than raucous rock songs (as heard on the previous record) but more as sonic works of art. Strong opener "Baby Universal" is infectiously catchy. Admittedly, this album takes some getting used to, but repeated listenings are very rewarding. Much of the difficulty with Tin Machine II rests in some general confusion with what guitarist Reeves Gabrels is doing with his guitar; he doesn't play it like a guitarist is supposed to play. He plays long textural notes that shift in pitch and intensity. He does not play on the beat, and he does not play licks that you will be humming when the song is over.

Tin Machine - In Session for The BBC - BBC Radio 1–1991 –. Tin Machine; short-lived, somewhat underrated, slightly overlooked but career rejuvenating for its front man, David Bowie. Put together at the spur of the moment in 1988, falling together effortlessly, David Bowie, along with Hunt and Tony Sales and guitarist Reeves Gabrels formed Tin Machine as a sort of temporary thing - it was only meant to be fun and spontaneous. And once it stopped being that, the band would dissolve. This batch of sessions comes around the time of the release of their second album, Tin Machine II and the subsequent tour to promote it. Tin Machine would break up late in 1992, partly because of poor sales, partly because of problems developing in the band.
